
National Liberal Party Announces Leadership Shake-Up
The National Liberal Party (NLP) has formally announced a significant reshuffle of its National Executive Council (NEC) leadership, citing Section 20(2) of the Political Parties Act, 2011. The changes, effective immediately, mark a bold step in the party’s bid to rejuvenate its leadership and strengthen its strategic direction.


In an official statement released today, NLP notified the public of a comprehensive overhaul across key leadership positions. The changes usher in new officials to head various departments, while retaining a few trusted figures in pivotal roles.

At the helm, Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli assumes the role of Party Leader, replacing Stephen Kipkiyen Tarus. Joshua Andala and Lameck Wafula have been appointed Co-Deputy Party Leaders, expanding the leadership base.

The Co-Chairperson roles are now occupied by Teddy Maina and Samuel Ogutu, replacing Japhet Kiari Kea and filling previously vacant seats. Omondi K’oyoo retains his position as Secretary General, reaffirming his influence in party operations, while Fiona Ndunge takes over as Deputy Secretary General from Cesran Njeru.

In the finance docket, Josphat Maina has replaced John Waithaka as National Treasurer, and Leocadia Nyanchama takes over as Deputy National Treasurer. Jemima Katheeku and John Michael are now in charge of organizing as National and Deputy National Organizing Secretaries, respectively.

A revamped team of directors has also been announced, including:
Dennis Ombaba – Director of Political Affairs
Hassan Rajab – Director of Public Policy and Economic Affairs
Dorothy Ogolla – Secretary for Science and Technology (retained)
Esther Angawa – Director of Legal and Constitutional Affairs
Festus Mulatya – Director of Publicity and Information
Doreen Wamamba – Director of International Affairs
Magdaline Mutwii – Director of Women Affairs
George Bala – Director of Youth Affairs
Gladys Achieng – Director for Environment
Brenda Ongalo – Director of Elections
Further appointments include:
Beatrice Muange – Director for Special Programmes
Juliet Mmbone – Director for Labour and Human Resource Management
David Mutio – Director for National Security
Hamisa Zaja – Special Interest Group Representative
Edna Atieno – Executive Director, a new addition to the party’s secretariat.
The changes, according to the party, are aimed at infusing fresh energy, enhancing institutional capacity, and positioning NLP as a people-driven, future-ready political organization.
