Azimio's Replacement of Dr. Augustus Muli with Dr. Koki Muli Deemed Illegal and Unconstitutional
Azimio’s decision to replace Dr. Augustus Muli of the National Liberal Party with Dr. Koki Muli of Wiper Democratic Movement Party for the IEBC selection panel is both illegal and unconstitutional. Out of 23 parties, 16 voted for Dr. Augustus Muli, and thereafter he was issued a certificate confirming his victory over Dr. Koki Muli. This substitution not only disregards the official results but also undermines the selection process’s integrity. Dr. Augutus Muli has announced his intention to challenge the replacement in court if he is not gazetted. In response, Secretary General Omondi K’oyoo has called on DCI Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim to take legal actions on Kalonzo Musyoka and Junet Mohamed for allegedly falsifying documents and presenting them to the Clerk’s office.
The selection panel now has three months to complete its recruitment process and submit the list of nominees to the President. Following this period, the panel will be dissolved unless Parliament grants an extension of its mandate. This timeframe is crucial for ensuring that the appointment process remains on track and that the panel’s responsibilities are fulfilled in a timely manner.
