National Liberal Party Applauds Court Ruling, Criticizes Wiper Over IEBC Stalemate
The National Liberal Party (NLP) has welcomed the Kiambu High Court’s recent decision to advance the process of constituting the IEBC Selection Panel. In a statement issued by Secretary General Omondi K’oyoo, the NLP praised the ruling as a vital step in resolving the current impasse, ensuring the process remains lawful, transparent, and fair.
The party, however, expressed concern over ongoing tensions stemming from the Wiper Party’s alleged interference. NLP accused Wiper leader Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka of being the “sole architect” of the stalemate by attempting to impose a rejected candidate, Koki Muli, despite her failure to garner sufficient support during a democratic election involving 23 political parties within the Azimio coalition.
The NLP reiterated that Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli’s selection to the IEBC Selection Panel reflects the will of the majority, with overwhelming backing from Azimio coalition parties. They criticized Wiper for undermining the IEBC Amendment Act of 2024 and violating coalition principles by introducing unilateral clauses.
“If Wiper cannot accept the outcomes of a transparent election, how can they be trusted to respect the will of millions of Kenyans in a national election?” the statement read.
Additionally, the NLP dismissed allegations branding the party and Dr. Augustus Muli as “projects” of the Kenya Kwanza government, reaffirming its position as a proud constituent of the Azimio Coalition. The NLP labeled such claims as baseless and divisive, urging all parties to prioritize unity and integrity within the coalition.
As the Court of Appeal prepares to hear the pending case on January 28, 2025, the NLP emphasized its unwavering faith in the judiciary and called on stakeholders to respect the judicial process. The party reiterated its commitment to democracy, fairness, and the rule of law, urging political leaders to set aside personal ambitions and work collectively toward strengthening Kenya’s democratic institutions.
The NLP concluded with a call for trust, cohesion, and a shared focus on building a brighter future for all Kenyans.
